Earthlink ISP Review

Earthlink has successfully gained its position as the ace ISP in terms of customer acquisition. The secret behind their success is their sincere effort to provide maximum customer satisfaction. High speed connection with minimum drop-offs, exclusive blocking tools to stop pop-ups, spyware and spams and their free Accelerator for enhanced internet speed makes them the preferred choice for most of the internet subscribers. However, this high quality service comes with a price, Earthlink generally charges an above average price compared to the other low cost dial up ISPs.

Trial Period

Earthlink offers a trial for the first six months of subscription at a discounted price. The dial up service is charged $9.95/month whereas the high-speed service is priced at $19.95/month for the first six months.

Setup

Earthlink offers internet service in several different ways and depending on the way you wish to receive the service the setup process varies. For customers using DSL and Cable connection there is no cost of activation or setup, however for people using Satellite there will be an equipment cost of $349.95 and an installation fee of $249.95. With earthlink’s Total Access software setup process is very easy and the software is available on CD or can be downloaded online. For any problems regarding the setup, customer service guys available 24/7 are always willing to help.

Access Numbers

Earthlink provides a bunch of numbers for dial up internet access from all states of the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. However, for all other calls received from other international numbers located outside the USA, Earthlink charges an additional $0.15/minute other than the long distance phone charge that you pay to your telephone company.

Computer Skills Requirement

Earthlink’s user-friendly set up process requires very little computer skills to set up the internet connection. However, for people using Satellite connection, are charged a fee to set up the internet connection and that would require relatively good knowledge about computers.

Email Address

Earthlink provides all dial-up service subscribers with 8 email addresses along with 10MB web space for each email address. Customers can use this web space to host their own website. While most ISPs provide 1-2 email address, Earthlink’s 8-email package is generally sufficient for all family members.
